The Poetry Bus

Here is where the adventure of a lifetime began... by tracking down the perfect vehicle. After searching for near a decade, I finally found the right bus, at the right moment in time.

There were certain specific features that I was looking for. It needed to be large enough to serve both as a proper live-in tour vehicle, yet it also needed to have the flare of an artist, with space for bookshelves.

Most importantly, the deal maker, was that it had to have a working wheelchair lift. This would be my poetry stage and live theatre. Seeing this, I knew that this was the exact vehicle I'd been looking for all this time.

Not only that, but bonus, it came complete with a roof deck as well, giving me multiple options for both performance and leisure.

So, then I noticed that the bus already had a name: Rieka. I looked this up and here's what I found:Rieka as a girl's name is of Old German origin, and the name Rieka means "complete ruler; peaceful ruler; power of the wolf; power of the home". The destination though is still "The Great Unknown." 🙂

Deed done, there's an old expression shared among Beat poets, "You pays your money, and you takes your chances." And so, grabbing opportunity when when the winds carry her my way, I did just that, holding on for that epic journey yet to come.

The torch has been passed. This is Tim who I got the bus from... he did all the work to get it to this point... he could have sold it to others, but this was meant to be... and (above) the video of the moment I drive her away to begin the next chapter...
